SWAYAM - Massive Open Online Courses (MOOCs)

The online SWAYAM (Study Web of Active Learning by Young and Aspiring Minds) platform is an ambitious plan of CEC/UGC/MHRD of developing and delivery of Massive Open Online Courses for Under Graduate and Post Graduate students. This technology enabled education module makes it easier for the billion plus population to access quality education in the form of MOOCs. It is also congruent to the present government’s dream of ‘Digital India’, of which digital education is an important aspect.

All the courses designed for SWAYAM platform are interactive and prepared by the best of subject experts in the country and available free of cost to the learners. The courses uploaded on SWAYAM are available in four quadrants –

Submit your Mooc's proposal MOOCs developed by Centre

  • Video lecture
  • Specially prepared reading material that can be downloaded/printed
  • Self-assessment tests through tests and quizzes and
  • An online discussion forum for clearing the doubts.
  • At the end of each course, there will be an assessment of the student through proctored examination and the marks/grades secured in this exam could be transferred to the academic record of the students.
  • UGC has already issued the UGC (Credit Framework for online learning courses through SWAYAM) Regulation 2016 advising the Universities to identify courses where credits can be transferred on to the academic record of the students for courses done on SWAYAM.

The students can register for courses on https://swayam.gov.in/

The EMRC, Gujarat University has been given the responsibility to develop MOOCs (Massive Open Online courses) which are available on SWAYAM web portal.

EMRC Ahmedabad has already developed Thirty MOOCs on Science, Business Economics, Management and Commerce varying from 2 to 4-credit course for Undergraduate/ Postgraduate level.

Many more proposals for developing MOOCs on Commerce, Science, Mass Communication, Commerce, Sociology and Education have been submitted to the Ministry of Human Resource Development (MHRD).
